After more than a year at home, mostly dressing in trackpants or fancy tops for Zoom, what do we pack for the long-awaited staycation?

You’d think that getting dressed (whilst also feeling cool, put-together, comfortable, weather-appropriate and like yourself) wouldn’t be that hard. But alas, after a year without any real practice, it turns out that I did somewhat forget the art of getting dressed. It’s not rocket science, obviously, but it does take a little effort to pull on something that doesn’t have an elasticated waistband.

THE SMOCKED SUMMER DRESS

A summer staple, for obvious reasons. Equal parts vintage and cool, the printed smocked dress can cover a lot of bases; lunches, BBQ’s, evenings at the beach in sandals, out to dinner with heels. Treat it like the grown up sister to the boho floral maxi.

THE LUXE KAFTAN

After a year at home, comfort is still king, and there’s a plethora of cool kaftan’s out there. This kaftan may be beachy in silhouette, but it’s not sheer or revealing in the slightlest, meaning you could defintely get away with wearing this in the city with cool flats and a little bag. It also provides the ultimate sun protection if and when the sun comes out.

THE RIBBED KNIT DRESS

Another piece that is as comfy as your PJ’s, yet a whole lot more chic. The ribbed knit dress is defintely having a comeback; there’s pretty much every shape, fabric and colour out there, just take your pick. It’s perfect on its own during the day, and then layer up with a cosy sweater or boxy jacket in the evening.

THE COOL SWEATSHIRT

It’s time to retire those much-loved trackies (at least when out of the house), so it’s worth investing in a sweatshirt for layering on cooler days and evenings—or really any time you need to throw something comfy on. This is the sort of thing you chuck in your bag last minute, and then end up wearing every single day.

THE EASY MINI DRESS

Lightweight, comfy (there’s a theme here, can you tell?) and yet instantly makes you feel put together. Throw over your bikini on the way to the beach, or style with strappy sandals and a slick bag when you’re headed out for lunch.

THE OVERSIZED WHITE DRESS

Every summer holiday needs a little drama with a billowing white dress. Keep things easy and style it with black strappy sandals and a basket bag.
