Between Seasons

What to wear the weather has no idea what it's doing

Can I get away with bare legs? Or do I need to take a jacket? What to wear in-between seasons when the weather can’t decide what it’s up to.

My sartorial state is currently in an indecisive flux courtesy of spring’s tentative arrival (or lack thereof). I’m sporting a mish-mash of knitwear, dresses, bare legs and snuggly coats. Enter: five instant outfits that are appropriate whatever the weather.

Go Bright

When the sun won’t come to you, take matters into your own hands and don bright, happy colours such as yellow, orange and red. Speaking from experience, stepping out in a whole lotta yellow will make you feel like a literal ray of sunshine.

Flash Some Ankle

If it’ still chilly out but you can’t face another day being bundled up, pair your usual winter get-up (denim, jumper, jacket etc) with strappy summer heels. It’s the easiest way to update the same look you’ve been sporting for the past 4 (ahem 5) months.

Flimsy Fabrics and Cosy Coats

Start bringing your slinky slip dresses and delicate silks into your sartorial rotation – just balance out the barely-there fabrics with super warm jackets and coats. Cropped jackets – puffers, leather, vinyl, take your pick – were made for this; anything that sits at the waist will always pair well with slinky dresses.

Spring Dresses and Winter Boots

Aka a cool-girls go-to. It’s the best of both worlds; the spring dress your itching to wear out and your favourite boots that got you through winter. Opt for an ankle grazing dress so your legs don’t catch a chill, wear socks, and if it’s a little brisk out, pop a thin layer underneath (or on top) for extra warmth.

Let Knitwear Be The Statement

After hiding your delicious knitwear under massive coats all winter, now is it’s time to shine. Wear over dresses, denim, skirts and trousers – anything goes – just let it be the focal point of your look.
