Saving Face

5 skincare products that actually work

Whilst I’ve come to accept there’s (sadly) no supernatural youth juice that can perform all kinds of wizardry on my face, I’m always on the lookout for skincare that works extra hard on my behalf.

For the most part I eat healthily, drink a lot of water, plus wear SPF 50 year round. But I also enjoy excessive beach time, late nights and the odd cocktail. Face masks, eye cream et al are my arsenal; cliche or not, it’s 100% true that flawless skin is less about makeup and more about your skincare routine.

And as it’s the season for over-indulgence (not to mention forgoing our usual healthier habits) I thought I’d round up my top skincare products which are legitimate face savers.

Sheet Masks are my lifeline when I’m heading out and need to look less tired than I feel, and Estee Lauder Night Repair PowerFoil Mask is my go-to. Their claim is that it’ll brighten, firm, moisturise and even skin tone, and it pretty much does exactly what it says on the box. Although it does say to use at night before bed, I use it first thing in the morning or before heading out at night – going to bed with perfect skin seems like a waste.

Calling a moisturiser magical is a pretty big claim, but Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream is just that. Genuinely the most luxuriously delicious moisturiser I’ve come across; it’s insanely hydrating minus the usual oily skin or spots.

Made for pretty much all skin types, Dr Jart’s Tiger Grass Colour Correcting Treatment is the ultimate tool for perfecting uneven skin tone. Bonus points for the fact that it’s SPF 30 and can be used instead of a BB or CC cream for light coverage. If it’s cold (or hot) out, this tub will hide any signs of redness, pronto.

I first tried out Natura BissĂ©’s Diamond Extreme Night Dual Treatment during a facial and was impressed enough to take it home with me. The most expensive item on my list and is more of a splurge rather than a necessity, but this dual mask and oil combo is the closest thing you’ll find to turning back the clock. It’s also ideal for lazy people (like myself) who don’t want to wait around for a mask to work it’s magic. Instead you just put it on, go to sleep and wake up looking more fresh-faced than ever before. This duo is the real deal.

Of all the skincare products I wished worked miracles, eye cream would be it. Estee Lauder’s Night Repair Eye Serum may not quite perform miracles, but it does actually reduce lines and dark circles under my eyes – notably better than any other product I’ve tried – which in my books is a straight up win.
