Fully Flared

Flares reach peak fever

If you’re vaguely put off by the re-emergence of super-sized flares, fear not, you’re not the only one. But I’m willing to place a small bet that if you’ve not already been swinging your legs about in roomy kick-flares, you will be soon enough. I get it; at first the proportions seem a bit off – so exaggerated. But once you pull on a swishy pair of flares you’ll look down and realize you are indeed wearing party pants. And really, what’s better than that?

The fluted silhouette is undoubtedly the hero piece here, so there’s no harm in keeping the rest of your get-up unapologetically simple. Opt for pieces you already have in your wardrobe on high rotation; trainers, white tees, blazers and black heels.

I’ve pulled out my two favourite tricks of the trade for each of these looks. First off, whenever things feel a touch over-dressed, just take it down to a notch with trainers. It’s the easiest way to inject casual vibe. Alternatively, whenever you want to feel put together (or just a bit Parisienne) find two kindred hues and create a mis-matched suit. Elegance made easy.
