I know I’m not the only one who over-enthusiastically packs for a summer holiday, carefully folding in that slinky dress I have yet to wear and slotting in an extra pair of heels ‘just in case’ only to wear the same vintage denim and slouchy tee for the entirety of the trip.
But there’s a very real satisfaction in traveling light. For one it makes traipsing down cobbled streets a whole lot easier. Not to mention arriving at your Airbnb and discovering a complete lack of stairs.
So what to pack for your next summer trip? First up, is a minimal straw hat. It may seem like a nightmare to travel with, but it’ll be the finishing touch on 75% of your outfits, not to mention protect your face from the sun. Then you’ll need a top that ticks all of the boxes (and this is no mean feat) – I’m talking something that shows off your tan, is slouchy enough to feel relaxed in, and works for both day and night. Apply this approach to pretty much everything you pack; each piece has to be versatile.
Swap your vintage cut-offs and embrace the denim mini; it’s a 90’s revival after all. Now I never thought I’d say this but ditch the leather sandals and opt for espadrilles. They are perfect for summer holidays and you don’t need to be precious about them. And lastly, get yourself a roomy straw tote – big enough for your beach towel, books, bikini, sun cream and of course aforementioned hat.
